For anyone who plans to visit a loved one in jail, they should first have a thorough understanding of the policy for visitors. Anyone who fails to follow these policies for visitation and the regulations, you might find that you’re unable to see your loved one. For example, you will need to know the visitation hours, which depends on the jail. Wake County Jail in Raleigh, North Carolina, for example, has visitation hours from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm. In addition, the visitation hours continue from 4 pm to 6:30 pm. You can visit inmates on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, except on holidays.
The Rules
In Wake County, inmates will usually receive one visit for 45 minutes, which you can take advantage of every other week. As each visit happens, inmates can only receive two visitors, and they must be either an adult and another adult, or they will have to be an adult plus a child. If you have two people who have shown up for the visit, then they will need both parties together. Visitors who are 16 or under will need an adult, and you will have to schedule your visit 24 hours ahead of time.
Visitation Process
Be sure to schedule your desired visitation time 24 hours ahead of time. Second, you will need to have photo identification. You will present this and register at the desk. For the entirety of the visit, you will have the ID kept at the visitor’s desk. Some of the acceptable forms of identification include:
• ID cards issued by the government
• Driver’s license
• Passport
Don’t Bring Anything with You
For the duration of the visitation, you won’t be able to bring anything with you. You can’t bring messages, money, letters, packages or anything else. They will not accept this at the time of the visitation. Any visitor who brings contraband will have violated the policies of the jail, and they will face prosecution. In addition, any visitors who have been found to violate these things will lose their privileges for visitation. This can be executed by the officer in charge or on duty.
