Defendants and their families run into trouble when the cost of bail is beyond their resources. In many cases, bail is thousands of dollars. Many felony cases result in bonds in the tens of thousands of dollars and up. Few people can afford to pay that kind of money.

Bail bonds solve this problem. When you hire a bail bondsman, your bondsman pays the bail on behalf of the defendant, resulting in the defendant’s immediate release. The bail bond fee in North Carolina is 15 percent of the bail set by the court.

A payment plan can be entered into by the defendant or a cosigner on the defendant’s behalf. Once the payment plan is set and the defendant signs an agreement to appear in court, the defendant is freed.
